Space as a Story
AR/VR Games | Online Workshop | English | Europe-Mideast-Africa
Description:
Key Words: VR,XR Architecture,Storyteling,Social
Required Skills: beginner Blender / intermediate Rhino (Grasshopper) - optional
Required Software: Blender, Rhino (Grasshopper) - optional
Required Hardware: Laptop with MacOS / Windows or Linux installed
Maximum number of participating students: 15
During the workshop participants will learn how to use virtual reality spaces as storytelling machines.

Virtual space gives us an opportunity to exercise in space storytelling. We can produce an endless amount of versions of spaces that are considered as real or real-like architecture by the users. They explore and travel through space the way they would behave in a real building.

We would travel through VR spaces and discuss the way that visitors use them and how the virtual architecture can become an unfolding narrative.

The technical part of the workshop would cover the instruments and possible workflows for producing the virtual space. Participants would learn how to prepare assets in Blender or Rhino (Grasshopper) and how to export them. We would show the process of creating a virtual space for Mozilla Hubs using Spoke.

Participants would produce spatial concepts and drafts of the space that transmit a story or an idea. And through the experiments with topology, lighting and sounds they will learn how to catch the user's focus, create points of interest in virtual space and design trajectories for the journey of a future visitor.

As a final result, participants will create virtual spaces in Mozilla Hubs that will tell their own story through a set of spatial interactions.

Daria Smakhtina - is an interdisciplinary artist and an architect with a wide experience in architectural design. Area of her interest lies in the interplay of physical and virtual realities. As a co-founder of ἐphemera ONE studio she is experimenting with non-physical spaces while searching for new forms of cross-species communication and environments that they can inhabit.
